specialty products

I make a number of [extra] special pots that deserve special attention, so below is the short list:

(1) fermenting crock

This is for the folks that love to ferment sauerkraut, kimchee or pickled vegetables at home. It is 7″ tall x 7″ wide, holds close to one gallon (3.5 quarts) and includes a lid that fits inside to weight down the vegetables and hold them under water, so they ferment. It is both microwave & dishwasher friendly and completely food safe (of course). The front of the crock says ‘ferment’ and the back boldly states ‘foment’, both created using vintage letterpress stamps. I can create the crock in the pictured green color or any of my other three colors.

I made this crock b/c I am a self-styled ‘fermentation fetishist’ like my guru Sandor Ellix Katz. Fermenting is easy, ancient, low-tech & healthy. In short, eating live fermented foods promotes diversity among microbial cultures in your body. Fermentation is the opposite of homogenization and uniformity. Make your own unique DIY fermented foods in your own home and foment health & diversity! (2) old-fashioned shaving scuttle mug
This handmade functional shaving scuttle mug will keep your shaving lather hot and give you a pleasant shave! The shaving is great because the rich, warm lather softens your beard faster and lessens your chances of getting razor burn or nicking yourself. It is an antique design made modern and great for both straight razor shavers & safety razors. Razors Barbershop & Shave, a wonderful barbershop up in Somerville, MA, inspired me to start making these beautiful & utilitarian old-fashioned scuttles.
.
This scuttle is fully functional and made by hand. I can make it in any of my four colors & it holds roughly 1 cup of liquid. Its dimensions are 3.5″ high, 8″ wide and 6″ deep. To learn more about old-fashioned wet shaving, click here.

(3) Composting containers
Get rid of that rusty bucket on your counter-top and replace it with something handmade & beautiful! For the folks that love to compost, this 7″ tall functional handmade jar to hold all your kitchen waste is perfect.

This jar holds close to one gallon and includes a lid that fits right on top. It also has a handle made from sturdy braided wire. And the front states ‘compost’ — so you clearly know what is inside — and is created using vintage letterpress stamps.
